Michael Bublé

If you don’t me very well then you don’t know about my new obession with youtube music videos. When I need a break from life I just go to the computer and start watching youtube videos. One of my favorite musicians is Michael Buble. Michael has a one of a kind type of voices. I feel like he is singing to me…I don’t know what it is but when he sing it is as if he puts a spell on me. It reminds me of the scene in Bye bye Birdie when Birdie sings to everyone:

Since we are speaking about Bye Bye Birdie I must say I think High school musical is a somewhat knock off of it 😉

Back to Michael…One of my favorite songs of his is Haven’t Met you yet. The music video is quite entertaining. I am still trying to figure out how they come up with these strange scenarios for their videos. In “Haven’t met you yet” Michael is in a grocery store going up and down the aisle. He is singing about a girl that he is in love with, but just hasn’t met her yet. He is dreaming about her as he sings and dances in the store. At one point he is in a bed that is on wheels going down the aisles. That is the part when it gets strange. Besides the strangeness in the video I really like the song.

Enjoy!

A productive day

I am not sure it is legal to have a productive day on vacation, but I am a rule breaker so of course I have been busy at work. This morning I slept in a little as someone should on vacation. I made my sister and I some coffee and then I hit the streets for a run. I ran down to target to buy a water bottle and a few other products. There is something about target. I feel at home and peace anytime I am in one. Between there and back it was a good 3 mile run. It sure was hot out there. I was thinking man it feels like I am back in Africa…wonderful!

After my short trip to target I got ready to go down to the beach. It was a successful relaxing day. No rescues had to be made….thankfully my mom pretty much stayed out of the ocean. My sister and I spent alot of time together today. It was really nice. We laid out and listened to music. I introduced her to Jack Johnson (the music not the person…I wish). My mom pretty much chilled with a friend that she met the previous year. They caught up on life from the past year. My mom is too funny. David (my brother) and his friend Caleb (I call him my brother from another mother) caught a giant blue crab. I pulled out my handy dandy i-pod touch and got them to do a commentary on their catch. They were too cute. I read through a couple of chapters of one of my books for my marriage and family class. I am learning so much and so thankful for the Gospel of Jesus Christ, for everything is being united in Him again.

We then cooked dinner and ate. I made a special dessert for everyone…Brownies! No they were not hash brownies either. The night ended when I took up trying to fight my dad. Needless to say I am thankful it was my dad otherwise I would have had to put the boxing gloves on and beat him…but since it was my dad I let him keep his dignity and allowed him to beat me (not really I need to take a self defense class).

My mom was almost lost at sea

So today was another exciting day! Recently I have found myself in emergency situations. There was the bonfire incident, work of course, and then today…After eating my cereal, drinking my cup of coffee, and getting sunscreened up I headed down to the beach. My backpack was filled with a few books in it mainly about marriage and family for my J-term class. My mom was my only beach buddy this morning. We sat and talked for a while and then her being the water bug she was set out for the ocean. I joined her shortly after her departure from me. As i was heading in she signaled for me to bring her noodle out to her to help her float. Being the wonderful, godly daughter that I am I obeyed her ;). The water was freezing when I first got in. Once in though it seemed to warm up a bit. The current was strong and my bathing suit top was not so I decided to head back to the sand in order to to expose anyone that was on the beach to my top coming off with a wave. I picked up one of my books and was about 4 pages into reading when all of the sudden I heard coming from the direction of the ocean, “Help! Monica Help me!” I looked up and there was my mom calling me in distress. I have been on high alert since the bonfire…so all of the sudden I wasn’t even thinking I threw my glasses off and held my top and went and dove in the ocean and started swimming out to my mom. Thankfully there were some people close to her that went out and brought her in some. She wasn’t drowning…what had happened was an undertow was taking her out to sea. After being pulled back in by these strangers she started drifting back out again. I had to go out, get her, and walk her back to the chairs. Once we got back to the chairs we both took a sign of relief. Our hearts were beating so hard and fast. My mom said it was one of the scariest things. I agree with her. After that brief incident we all stayed out of the water. I enjoyed telling the story to the rest of my family. My brother said he even heard my mom yelling half way down the beach.

We ended up fixing hamburgers for dinner tonight. Oh my meat is delicious! We ate out at the pavilion. We love eating there because we can fix our own food (cheap) and we get to eat by the ocean. Tonight there were many families down there cooking food and eating at the tables set up. One of the families had music playing. It was old school music but I like it. One song came on and I asked my dad to dance with me but he turned me down. I can say I have been rejected now. A few songs later my girl came on…i had my mom to dance with me since no one else would. She agreed so we danced. It was so funny i just laughed thinking the people here probably think i am crazy but hey i will never see them again so why not have a good time and allow them the opportunity to laugh too.

It was a good day. Still had its up and downs but that is life and it is all a blessing. All i can say is : I LOVE MY LIFE.

Arriving to Florida

Today has been an adventurous day. Starting out my day was a trip to the AT&T store. Last night my phone just stopped working correctly. I have had it for less then 6 months and am already have problems with it. Of course it stops working the night before i must go on vacation. Jessica and i did everything to try to make the phone work. I took the battery out…I took the sims card out…I turned the phone off. For our last resort Jess and I even laid hands on the phone and prayed over it in Jesus name. Morning came and it still wasn’t working so I awoke to my alarm going off for about the 5 millionth time from me pressing the snooze button for about 2 hours and not even knowing it. Once I arrived at the store the lady gave me a card and told me I needed to call the number on the card. I asked her how I was suppose to call the number and she was like I guess you are going to have to buy a phone…I did. I bought another phone so I could call customer and tell them that my other phone was broken and to send me a new one, plus I needed a phone to get in contact with people as they are picking me up from the airport.

Once I arrived home I plugged the new phone and and called customer service. A woman with a monotonous voice answered and asked for my account information. The problem is I am on a family plan with my friend Bettie. He number was in the broken phone which i don’t have access to. After telling the woman my story she was like well the only thing I can do is tell you to turn the phone off, take the battery out, put the battery back in, and turn it back on. Other then that I can’t help you. I was like what? She was like yep that’s all I can do for you at the moment, so tell me what is wrong with your phone. I told her I was going to have to let her go so that I could get my thoughts together (yes I was angry). (the phone issue has still not been resolved)

Once I got on the vision airlines planes I looked around and realized it was a plane full of kids and oh then there were a few adults. In fact the flight attendant counted and there were 22 babies on board. It was like a circus on that plane. At one point of the flight all of the babies were crying at the same time. I looked at the girl sitting next to me and asked if any of them were related to her. She said no and I was like this is good birth control. Her and I then started talking and found out that we work at the same place. It was good getting to talk to another nurse. She then became my partner in crime. After the plane landed we went to get our luggage that had been placed under the plane. As we were walking over to get it these people started screaming at us you can’t be over there. This lady came and stuck her hand in the girl’s face and was like ummmm I’m gonna need you to step over there. We then just went in the building to baggage claim. 45 minutes we were able to claim our non-checked baggage.

Soon after claiming my luggage I walked outside to meet my dad. We then drove to pizza hut, picked up the pizza, and drove to the condo. After eating we went to walmart to buy groceries for the week. Let’s just say going grocery shopping has become my thing after going to the markets in Africa. I love going at least down the produce isle…the sad thing is now I organize everything including the groceries as they go in the cart. The list was split up so my mom and I had items to get and my brother and brother from another mother had another list of items. One of the items on my list was meat. As I was looking at the meat I asked the guy working at walmart which one was the leanest. As he was telling me I noticed that the meat told if it was lean of not. This is how our conversation went:

meatguy: so the green label means it is the fattest meat. There is so much grease. you don’t want to get that. The red label means the good kind.

me: But the green package says lean meat on it. I thought the more lean the less fat and less grease.

meatguy: Ok are you working in the meat department. No they got me working here so i know what I am talking about.

me: ok how about this purple label it says extra lean. I think they have the meats in order so the leanest is at the top.

meatguy: Umm you know what I think I made a mistake. I think you are right. The leanest is at the top with the fattest at the bottom.

me: it is ok we all make mistakes.

This conversation with this guy just blessed my heart. He was so confident in his knowledge of meat telling me he was the one that worked in the meat department. It just made me laugh…oh and it made my day. All that flying and shopping wears an ole girl like me out these days. On that note I am going to be hitting the bed.

p.s. we all survived the rapture. You all know if I’m not gone then it wasn’t real 😉

treat yo momma right!

As I was sitting procrastinating on my sanctification project, I decided to do a quick yahoo log in. I was hoping some mail had come so that I would have a reason to stop working on my project. Well, i didn’t exactly get to the mail part. You see as I was about to log in the news feed caught my eye. Usually I just nod my head and say something like oh isn’t that sweet or oh you gotta be kiddn me, but today i was intrigued. The title read high schooler takes mom to prom. I watched the video…well I am still not sure how I feel about it. I mean its good he’s thinkn about his mama and wanting to spend time with her before he goes away to school. he also knows he is the reason why she had to drop out of high school cuz she got pregnant with him, but does that mean he should take her to prom. So as I am thinking about this there are a few things running though my mind. I am just going to type it out as i am working through it so if it doesn’t make sense…well welcome to my world.

So I am thinking the guy says that he is not going to go to prom unless his momma goes with him…I am guessing this guy is single and can’t get a girl. I mean its one thing to ask yo momma to go with you, but another to say you are not going to go cuz she won’t. One good thing though about the mom going with the son is she won’t have to worry about the son telling her about some grandkids she is going to have because of the after prom. Which brings up another interesting question…how you gonna dance with your mom at the prom? I mean lets be honest we know how kids now a days dance. And no its not like off the movie dirty dancing…its more like they all look they are fish out of water trying to get back in the water, but on top of each other. This his momma you can’t do that. What’s gonna happnen if he wants to dance with another girl? Boy, you gonna let one of your nasty guy friends handle your Momma? No you best be protecting her. There are many more things to think about, but I’m tired so I’ll let you come up with your own thoughts…in the end though it is sweet, but so weird.

Oh the Heart!

As I look back over the past year, I see differences all throughout my life. Some of those things I am ok with, others I just wish I could take back. A lot of people don’t know the struggles I faced while in Africa. I love Africa so much, but it was in Africa that so much pressure was put on me. Some of it I put on myself while other pressures were added because of the people in my life at the time. One of the things which God has been changing me on is becoming more dependent on others including himself (yes this is the one I wish i could take back). I kinda always had this attitude that I could do anything and it didn’t matter because I was this strong woman. However, in Africa God broke me of this. I never realized how much I needed people who loved me in my life. I am so thankful for those people who spent money on skype to message me to help me in my time of struggle. I am especially grateful to my mother and father who prob. spent over 100 dollars so my mom could call me. I am telling you in those hard times it was so good to hear her voice. I am also thankful for Jessica Fregoe who also purchased money to skype me…later she told me that she could never understand/hear me, but she has no idea just having someone to talk to was amazing. April and Sharon were also there for me. Although times were tough and the moments that I realized I couldn’t do it anymore “alone” God was so faithful in providing people in my life that were thousand of miles across the sea to help carry me along. Although I am still a strong woman, i am not in the same sense as i use to be. I see that my heart struggled a lot with pride and fear of man and still does. Anyways I suggest everyone should look at your hearts and see how certain sins are manifesting in your life. Here is a post of 7 marks of a right heart:

7 Marks of a Right Heart Before God

16APR

1) A right heart is a NEW heart (Ezek. 36:26). It is not the heart with which a person is born—but another heart put in them by the Holy Spirit. It is a heart which has new tastes, new joys, new sorrows, new desires, new hopes, new fears, new likes, new dislikes. It has new views about the soul, sin, God, Christ, salvation, the Bible, prayer, heaven, hell, the world, and holiness. It is like a farm with a new and good tenant. “Old things are passed away. Behold all things are become new” (2 Cor. 5:17).

2) A right heart is a BROKEN and CONTRITE heart (Psalm 51:17). It is broken off from pride, self-conceit, and self-righteousness. Its former high thoughts of self are cracked, shattered, and shivered to atoms. It thinks itself guilty, unworthy, and corrupt. Its former stubbornness, heaviness, and insensibility have thawed, disappeared, and passed away. It no longer thinks lightly of offending God. It is tender, sensitive, and jealously fearful of running into sin (2 Kings 22:19). It is humble, lowly, and self-abased, and sees in itself no good thing.

3) A right heart is a heart which BELIEVES on Christ alone for salvation, and in which Christ dwells by faith (Rom. 10:10Eph. 3:17). It rests all its hopes of pardon and eternal life on Christ’s atonement, Christ’s mediation, and Christ’s intercession. It is sprinkled in Christ’s blood from an evil conscience (Heb. 10:22). It turns to Christ as the compass-needle turns to the north. It looks to Christ for daily peace, mercy, and grace—as the sun-flower looks to the sun. It feeds on Christ for its daily sustenance, as Israel fed on the manna in the wilderness. It sees in Christ a special fitness to supply all its needs and requirements. It leans on Him, hangs on Him, builds on Him, cleaves to Him, as its physician, guardian, husband, and friend.

4) A right heart is a PURIFIED heart (Acts 15:9Matt. 5:8). It loves holiness, and hates sin. It strives daily to cleanse itself from all filthiness of flesh and spirit (2 Cor. 7:1). It abhors that which is evil, and cleaves to that which is good. It delights in the law of God, and has that law engraved on it, that it may not forget it (Psalm 119:11). It longs to keep the law more perfectly, and takes pleasure in those who love the law. It loves God and people. Its affections are set on things above. It never feels so light and happy as when it is most holy; and it looks forward to heaven with joy, as the place where perfect holiness will at length be attained.

5) A right heart is a PRAYING heart. It has within it “the Spirit of adoption whereby we cry, Abba Father” (Rom. 8:15). Its daily feeling is, “Your face, Lord, will I seek” (Psalm 27:8). It is drawn by an habitual inclination to speak to God about spiritual things—weakly, feebly, and imperfectly perhaps—but speak it must. It finds it necessary to pour out itself before God, as before a friend, and to spread before Him all its needs and desires. It tells Him all its secrets. It keeps back nothing from Him. You might as well try to persuade a person to live without breathing, as to persuade the possessor of a right heart to live without praying.

6) A right heart is a heart that feels CONFLICT within it (Gal. 5:17). It finds within itself two opposing principles contending for the mastery—the flesh lusting against the spirit, and the spirit against the flesh. It knows by experience what Paul means when he says, “I see a law in my members warring against the law of my mind” (Rom. 7:23). The wrong heart knows nothing of this strife. The strong man armed keeps the wrong heart as their palace, and their goods are at peace (Luke 11:21). But when the rightful King takes possession of the heart, a struggle begins which never ends until death. The right heart may be known by its warfare, quite as much as by its peace.

7) A right heart is HONEST, UNDIVIDED, and TRUE (Luke 8:15;1 Chron. 12:33Heb. 10:22). There is nothing about it of falsehood, hypocrisy, or image-acting. It is not double or divided. It really is what it professes to be, feels what it professes to feel, and believes what it professes to believe. Its faith may be feeble. Its obedience may be very imperfect. But one thing will always distinguish the right heart. Its religion will be real, genuine, thorough, and sincere.

 ► Summary:

A heart such as that which I have now described, has always been the possession of all true Christians of every name, nation, people and tongue. They have differed from one another on many subjects—but they have all been of a right heart. Some of them have fallen, for a season, like David and Peter—but their hearts have never entirely departed from the Lord. They have often proved themselves to be men and women laden with infirmities—but their hearts have been right in the sight of God. They have understood one another on earth. They have found that their experience was everywhere one and the same. They will understand each other even better in the world to come. All that have had right hearts upon earth, will find that they have one heart when they enter heaven.

Hidden Valley: SOUTHWEST CHIPOTLE

As I was sitting and eating breakfast this morning around 12 O’clock I was thinking to myself, “I really need to let everyone know the best thing that has happened to me this past month.”

One night I was making a salad, but needed some dressing to go on that salad. As I looked through the refrigerator I saw a food label out  the corner of my eye that said…”lite Southwest Ranch dressing.” I love mexican spicy, but unfortunately Africa did not carry anything like that in their markets…imagine that. As I poured the dressing over my salad, I could smell that this was gonna be good! Ijust didn’t know how good it was going to be and that it would soon become my new addiction. Soon the salad disappeared off my plate. This only left me with a sad feeling, but it was ok because I could eat another salad the next day.

All I could think about that night though was what I was going to fix that I could put this dressing on. Finally the morning came and I arose out of bed to fix me…another salad in the am. It was so good. The dressing had the same effect of me has it had the night before. However, things had changed because now my entire meal plan for the day revolved around what I could fix with this dressing.

Words cannot even describe the love which I have for this dressing. All good things must come to an end though. Eventually my new dressing had been eaten all up 😦 …THEN I REMEMBERED…THIS IS AMERICA SO I GOT IN MY CAR AND DROVE TO WALMART! Walmart did not have the exact same kind of southewest ranch, but they did have a southwest chipotle. I was hesitant as the dressing was not even mine. I thought it was my housemate’s who was in FL at the time, so I wanted to make sure and get something similar so she would not be mad I ate all her dressing. Needless to say it tastes the exact same and the dressing belonged to an old housemate, so now I have this huge bottle of this dressing in the Frig. don’t worry it has not gone to waste. Jessica and I have found new things that we can put it on. Jess has even made a cabbage side item and mixed this tasty dressing with it only to create a master piece meal item. It is also great with sandwiches, breakfast burritos, eggs, chips…you name it, it just spices everything up a little bit and gives it an mmm yummy taste to it.

If you are coming to the fiesta party this Friday you know it will be there so make sure and try some…it will change your life. However, if you are unable to come to the party I suggest you run out to your neighborhood walmart grocery store and grab you some Hidden Valley: Southwest Chipotle dressing.

Another wonderful article!

Posted below is a wonderful article that I read today. It discuss how we as Christians need to be careful how we define terms. Sometimes we are all talking about the same thing, but use different terms. the author discusses whether there is such a thing as “free will.” Enjoy!

Free Will vs. Free Will?

John Hendryx

“free-will is a nonentity, a thing consisting of name alone”
– Martin Luther

“The will of man without the grace of God is not free at all, but is the permanent prisoner and bondslave of evil since it cannot turn itself to good.”
– Martin Luther

“All the passages in the Holy Scriptures that mention assistance are they that do away with “free-will”, and these are countless … For grace is needed, and the help of grace is given, because “free-will” can do nothing.”
– Martin Luther

“We are all sinners by nature, therefore we are held under the yoke of sin . But if the whole man is subject to the dominion of sin , surely the will , which is it’s principal seat , must be bound with the closest of chains. And indeed if divine grace were preceded by any will of ours, Paul could not have said that,”it is God that worketh in us to will and to do ‘ (Phil. 2:13)
– John Calvin

“Before the fall, man had been created with a free will, so that, had he been willing, he might have kept the law; his nature was pure; the disease of sin had not yet reached him… But having desired to be as God, he died – and not he alone, but all his posterity. Since then in Adam all men are dead, no one can recall them to life, until the Spirit, which is God himself, raises them from the dead.”
– Ulrich Zwingli

“Free will I have often heard of, but I have never seen it. I have always met with will, and plenty of it, but it has either been led captive by sin or held in the blessed bonds of grace.”
– C. H. Spurgeon

Everything is gone if free-will is gone; the moral system is gone if free-will is gone; you cannot escape, except by materialism on the one hand or pantheism on the other. Hold hard, therefore, to the doctrine of free-will.
– A. A. Hodge

What? Huh? How does one account for the last quote since A. A. Hodge essentially has the same theological convictions as all the others listed above? He is not alone in this. There are quite a few Reformed brethren who have historically affirmed that man has a “free will” and use this as a common way of speaking. Below, in as few words as possible, I would like to explore the difference and then encourage you to use one or the other of these methods if you wish to speak consistently.

Below I would like to express what I personally think is a better way of expressing the condition of our will, and why.

After discussing, debating and praying through this issue for 10 years, I have decided to take the position that it is better to declare that fallen man has no free will because I believe this is the most faithful way of using the word “freedom” in light of the Bible’s way of using the term. It also tends to lead to more fruitful discussions when we define the meaning up front. Some Reformed writers, like Hodge, tend to use philosophical and confessional language (describing man’s condition as having a ‘free will’ to do as he likes according to his nature. But his nature is evil so, being led by sin, can only choose evil and is unable to choose good.). That’s fine, but if you look closely, it turns out that the very thing he calls “freedom”, the Bible calls “bondage” or “slavery to sin” (John 8:34). That is too odd to ignore, I think. Moreover, the Bible never uses the term ‘free will’ to describe unregenerate man. The Bible uses the term ‘freedom’ one way (i.e. freedom from sin) and these writers do another (freedom from coercion within the bounds of our nature). This is not to say that these writers are wrong in concept. Not at all. I actually agree completely with the concept and their theology, but differ only on usage of terms. I find “voluntary’ to be more accurate than ‘freedom’ since we are not free from sin until Christ Himself gives ” liberty to the captive[s]” (Luke 4:18). Thus the Bible declares that the greatest freedom is when we are free FROM sin and become slaves of righteousness (Rom 6:18) and “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36) In Romans 6:22 we are called “slaves of God” but Paul says of this that “I am speaking in human terms because of your natural limitations.” Indeed “slavery” to God is seen a a positive thing because it is who we originally were created to be, freed from all corruption, and as such, it is the greatest freedom of all. As Christians we have been set free the bondage to sin, and translated into the kingdom of light where we finally behold the truth, beauty and excellency of Christ for the first time, and have been given a new heart which believes in Him. As glorified saints we will be free from the presence of sin, death and suffering forever. True freedom indeed.

As for discussion about this issue, ” I sometimes get the question: “God is sovereign, on that I have no doubt. But God’s sovereignty doesn’t rule out the fact that we make choices, right?”

My answer to this kind of question usually goes something like this: “The choices a fallen man makes are voluntary and self-determined, not coerced, but are in bondage and taken captive by sin, so they make evil choices of necessity, so they are not free. Free from coercion yes, but not free from necessity, due to a corruption of nature. Calvin said, “We do not say that fallen man is forced unwillingly into sinning, but rather that because his will is corrupt he is held captive under the yoke of sin (Rom 7:6; 2 Tim 2:26) and therefore sins of necessity.” If someone says that “voluntary” means free, consider the following: If a man was in his own house bound to a chair with cords and handcuffs, but not in federal prison, would you say he was free because he was not in federal prison? I believe such a way of speaking is a bit forced, yet many of us do this when speaking about man’s fallen condition. So when discussing ‘free will’ with someone it is always useful to ask up from “free from what?” so that the parties all understand what actually is being discussed. We are free from outside coercion (on this we all agree), but are we free from the bondage to sin? Free from God’s decree? Just because we are free from coersion does not mean we are free. There are other types of captivity that are just as deadly. I believe this questioning up front can undo a lot of misunderstandings.

As for God’s sovereignty, we wholeheartedly affirm that God’s predetermination and meticulous providence is “compatible” with voluntary choice. In light of Scripture, human choices are believed to be exercised voluntarily but the desires and circumstances that bring about these choices about occur through divine determinism (see Acts 2:23 & 4:27-28).

What practical application does this have? In a discussion with the average evangelical synergist or libertarian free-will theist, I often start by asking them if they believe man has a free will? They will always answer, “of course”. Next I ask, in light of Scripture, can a person come to faith in Jesus Christ apart from grace?, or apart from any help of the Holy Spirit? If they are a Christian they will answer “no” which means that they have just contradicted themselves. If they cannot come to Christ apart from grace then they just contradicted their belief in libertarian free will. For if man had a libertarian free will why would he need grace? What is stopping him from coming to Christ? (see 1 Cor 2:14; John 6:65). You see, grace does away with free will altogether. This can lead to all kinds of fruitful discussion about the nature of grace since you have already established, with the libertarian, that you both reject free will. This also has profound implications on how we share the gospel.

So is it “free-will or free-grace?. The Bible says that men are born again, not of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God (John 1:13); that it is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy (Rom 9:16); the work of faith is the operation of God according to the exceeding greatness of his power, who works in man both to will and to do of his own good pleasure.” (Phil 2:13)

A lot of prayer and thought has gone into this issue for me but if my bretheren still choose to declare man has free will, I will know what they mean, and as such, we can still smile at one another, knowing that we are really saying the same thing while holding to our different ways of expression.

Walmart…best place ever!

Today was one of those days as it was happening I was like is this for real…my life is awesome.

Well, it didn’t start off too well. I had to go to the hospital and take a test on heart monitoring. Let’s just say being out of the hospital for 8 months has made me forget alot. I will be brushing up on my nursing knowledge soon. (The results are still pending.)

After the test I headed home. Instead of taking the expressway home I took the back roads. It is much faster! Well as I am driving down the street all of the sudden I see this man walking across the street with a huge rat in his hand. It was at least a foot tall. He was holding it by the tail in his right hand. Now there are several things he could have been doing with this rat: showing it off to his friends, “Hey look what I found,” He might have been being selfish, “Lunch for me!” , or he might be thinking this will make a great pet, “Let me attach a string to him and tote him around.” (credit due to people who brainstormed these with me. I cannot take full credit.)

The next thing I did was work out. Nothing too interesting happened there. Walmart was the next place on my stop. Let me tell you I had the best discussion with the African-American cashier. She was so friendly and dressed so well. In fact she has been working at that Walmart for 6 years, but there is a new employee of four months who is stirrin up trouble. She told me, “Look at the black girl there.” I was like where. She said “The black girl there.” I said oh yea. She was like she is just startin stuff and she only been working here for four months. Of course I  helped to fire her up more, “Are you serious girl.” Her reply, “mmm. she don’t like me cuz I be comin up in here lookin good and all dressed up everyday. That’s how I roll girl.” Then she picked up my cans of canned chicken and was like, “Girl you make you some chicken salad out of that.” I told her no, but I make tons of dishes from it. I told her I learned to cook in Africa. This is when the conversation hit its peak.

Cash register lady (CRL): “Girl did you go to da south africa?”

me: No i was in west africa…I lived out in a village.

CRL: Oh I had heard there were still a couple of villages out there in Africa…So is there like an ocean near or in Africa? I had heard there was an ocean near there where people had taken the slaves?”

me: yes there is an ocean by Africa. ( I then drew a picture in the air of Africa and showed her)

CRL: “Oh girl I had seen on Oprah when she had gone to some place along the cost of Africa…she went into a cave and she said you could just sense the evil in the place…you know what I mean.”

-at this point the lady standing in line behind us got in on the conversation. Her initials will be LBU

LBU: “Didn’t one of the presidents go there?”

CRL: “Yea I think it was Clinton.”

LBU: “No I think it was Obama”

me: well thanks so much you have a great day

CRL: “Girl you got some beads from Africa…you legit. I heard that Africans have beautiful jewelry…OOO girl the next time you come bring some pictures for me.”

All I can say is awesome right there. I love this lady and will making trips back up there to see her. I hope everyone’s day was eventful as mine. Needless to say it was a good/interesting day.

Dating

I love my yahoo account. One of the things that I love so much about it is the articles that pop up in the mainstream. Occasionally i will read these. This is how I keep up-to-date in the world of what is going on with lady Gaga and lil wayne. Tonight as I was logging in the main title  caught my eye. It read, “Why are you single.” It then expounds on this and gives you a modern day psychologist view on dating. Remember that this is not biblical, but I got a kick out of it so i decided I would share with everyone…I mean it will be a good thing to have in your back pocket if you ever need to give yourself a pep talk…
